El Pilar is a Mayan Ruin situated north of San Ignacio, Belize just off the Guatemalan border. The site has a couple of areas that have been excavated, but the majority sit under trees and organic material that have been building up for centuries. The area is amazing and very few people visit so there is plenty of wildlife. Eric Tut, my local birding guide out of Crystal Paradise Resort, gave me the full tour which included some fantastic birds as well as spider monkeys and howler monkeys. If you have a look at the room center frame, Eric had told me this would be an average dwelling and the notable notch on the facing wall would be the cupboard.
