Fuerte de San Miguel, Campeche, Mexico built by the Spaniards, 1771-1801. Campeche was always under threat of pirate attack. The fort was set on a pentagonal footprint on a high embankment, surrounded by a moat which is crossed by narrow curved passageway leading to the front door, where there was a drawbridge. It has a central courtyard, with its well in the center and side ramps leading up to the roof, where twenty guns were placed on the battlements of the building. Mexico 2015 1284
