Boy do I appreciate coming in second!!! How many times do we hear that today??? Most of the time it's all about winning. This picture tells quite a story about the proud Mayan culture. You see, different teams would train all year to play this particularly interesting game where they tried to place this ball (somewhere between a soccer ball and a softball) through this round stone that stuck out from the wall about 12' in the air. Sounds easy until you understand the rules... they could not use their hands or feet. I have seen a demonstration of this game in action and it is truely amazing. Here is the big catch... the captain of the losing team gets to perform the utmost honorly thing by cutting off the head of the captain of the winning team. God bless second place!!! If you look closely at the carvings you can see the losing captain holding the head of the winning captain in his left hand and a knife in his right hand.
