Uxmal is an ancient Mayan city of the classical period in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The structures at Uxmal date from about 850 to 1100 AD. It had a possible population of about 15,000 people. The Pyramid of the Magician (also the Adivino or the Pyramid of the Dwarf) is a stepped pyramid. It is unusual among Mayan pyramids because it is oval or elliptical in shape, instead of the more common rectilinear plan. We visited Uxmal on a shore excursion from Progreso, Mexico, in February 2014.
