Uxmal - Great Pyramid

Uxmal is an ancient Mayan city of the classical period in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The structures at Uxmal date from about 850 to 1100 AD. It is the most heavily decorated Mayan ruins in the Yucatan. It had a possible population of about 15,000 people. This is the Great Pyramid. It was originally nine levels high but has only been partially restored. You can climb to the top of the pyramid for a fantastic panoramic view of the site. We visited Uxmal on a shore excursion from Progreso, Mexico, in February 2014.
