Uxmal - View from the Great Pyramid

Uxmal is an ancient Mayan city of the classical period in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The structures at Uxmal date from about 850 to 1100 AD. It is the most heavily decorated Mayan ruins in the Yucatan. It had a possible population of about 15,000 people. You can climb to the top of the Great Pyramid for a fantastic panoramic view of the site. It was originally nine levels high but has only been partially restored. We visited Uxmal on a shore excursion from Progreso, Mexico, in February 2014. This is the view of the site half way up the Great Pyramid. To the right in the distance is the Pyramid of the Magician with its rounded corners.
