This is a photo of the top of Templo de los Guerreros, ( Temple of the Warriors). At the very top is a Chac Mool, that’s the stone statue in the reclined position. We were told this is where the human sacrifices would take place and it is believed that the still beating heart of the person being sacrificed would be placed on the Chac Mool. We were also told that this behavior was post-Classic Mayan and due to the heavy influence of the Toltec/Aztec cultures. Again I was impressed more with the understanding of sound. When standing in the right location, you could clap your hands and hear the echo of your clap come back from El Castillo as the call of the quetzal (bird) and a half second later the echo coming off this structure was the rattle of a snake (serpent). To experience that gave us goose bumps.
