The Tablud-Tablero - Tikal Ancient Mayan Site

One of the twin pyramids of the so called Mundo Perdido or Lost World Complex. The Lost World area was the section of the city most recently discovered. Excavation work there had only begun by 1979. The Mundo Perdido also happens to be the oldest part of the city. Building there first began around 600 BC This pyramid was originally constructed in the third century AD but was rebuilt several times over the centuries with the last adaption taking place around 700 AD when it took the form now seen. Three elite burials were discovered inside the temple and interestingly when first discovered archaelogists noticed that the temple had previously been used as a lair by a jaguar with many bones of from its prey found within! (see my previous pic for the pyramid's twin)
