Mexico-5840 - Quetzalcoatl at Ball Court Entrance

PLEASE, NO invitations or self promotions, THEY WILL BE DELETED. My photos are FREE to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know, thanks. The snakes head is of Quetzalcoatl (Feathered Serpent God), who was worshipped as early as 200B.C.. Named Quetzalcoatl by Nahua residents of Teotihuacan (near Mexico City), to Maya the plumed serpent was Kukulcan, The size of the Ball Court, 166 x 68 meters (545 by 223ft) make it the largest ball court in Mesoamerica. The height of the rings on the side walls, 12 meters (39ft) high, indicate that in this case, it is not likely that the ball was hit through the ring by the hip alone. The thinking now is that this court is not a place to play ball, but an "effigy" court for the purpose of ceremonial political and religious installations.
