Chichén Itzá is located in the Yucatán Peninsula on the eastern side of Mexico. It was a pre-Columbian Mayan city occupied from the years 1500 BC through 300 BC. It ruled over a confederacy of neighboring states. The site is rich in monumental architecture and sculpture which promote themes of militarism and displays imagery of jaguars, eagles, and feathered-serpents.
