The habanero chile, one of the world's hottest, is native to the Yucutan, but heat and spice aren't the only elements of local cuisine. Pork roasted over an open fire, ceviche crafted from local fish and citruses, and dishes of avocado, radishes, tomatoes, and cilantro all are representative of common local foods. In fact, the Yucutan has such an abundance of meats, vegetables, and fruits there seems little reason not to eat locally.
