This sculpture from the niche of el convento de San Miguel Arcangel (Convent of San Miguel Arcangel) Palacio Cantón, at Paseo de Montejo and Calle 43, was built in 1911 as a residence for General Francisco Canton, the governor of the state of Yucatán. It stayed in the family for a few years before being sold to the government where it functioned as a school, and then the official residence of the state governors before El Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) turned it into Museo de Antropología e Historia in 1966. Designed by Italian architect Enrico Deserti and engineer Manuel Canton Ramos, who oversaw Casas Gemelas, the mansion turned-museum is a mix of architectural styles: French Baroque, European neoclassical, and classical.
