A reminder that Yucatan peninsula was some millions years ago under the sea water. Not even very deep, like literally most of it under 40cm of water... and then that meteor came hurling by.

When The Chicxulub meteor hit our planet where Yucatan peninsula now raises, it was a shallow sea. That Everest size little piece of rock of course killed all the dinosaurs, elevated the peninsula during rebound and made all the cenotes that now exists in uber flat Yucatan soil.
