There were a big buildings down here: on top of Structure # 22, Terrace Building, Funerary platform and Shrines at the top of the hill, right after passing through the West gate. Archeological site of the ancient Mayan city of Tulum (Original name Zamá). Tulum means "Stone wall" while the other means "Sunrise or Morning" Fuentes del siglo XVI designan al sitio como “Zamá”, que en maya significa “mañana” o “amanecer”. El nombre de Tulum, es relativamente reciente, y se traduce como “muralla” o “palizada”, en alusión a la muralla que aquí se conserva.
