The Mayas went to sacred places, such as caves, cenotes, or temples in ruins, alone or in processions to venerate their deities and ancestors. A fundamental part of the ritual was placing offerings and burning copal incense in clay recipients, some bearing effigies of mythological beings. These biconical braziers with thorns of Tlaloc come from the caves of Balankanché.
