After 300 years Hacienda Petac has finally come full circle. In its youth the Hacienda was an elegant estate adorned with a rich collection of architectural elements, native materials, and vibrant decorations. For years the Hacienda functioned as both home and factory. Henequen, a native fibrous plant, was harvested on Hacienda grounds, and turned to sisal through an on-site manufacturing process. But in the 20th century the sisal markets collapsed. Through much of the Yucatan production ceased, and haciendas were abandoned or sold off. Fast forward to 2000, when Hacienda Petac's current owners purchased the dilapidated estate and restored it to its former glory.
