Yucatan-0001, Large Mayan structure, Uxkintok, February 2024

Rough scans of collodion dry plates taken at the Yucatan workshop held by Scully and Osterman. These kinds of plates have very high resolution and a lot of Dmax, so are a bit tough to scan properly. When printed with a process they were intended to be used with (e.g., salted paper printing) a lot of the artifacts (e.g., fibers that landed in the varnish while it was drying) will not show up. They will, however show up here. Second plate on the second day at Uxkintok. Really like this shot of the large Mayan structure. The overhanging trees blurred in the wind, and combined interestingly with the flaws in the edge coating at the top of the plate. This one made a very nice print, and I may try another process or two (e.g., collodion chloride) on it.
