In the 1200's, Tulum was an important Mayan seaport along the Yucatan coast. It was the only Mayan city built on a coast. It remained inhabited well after the arrival of the Spanish. It was surprising how iguanas there were at the site. It seemed each ruin had at least one iguana perched on it. Here are two iguanas at the Casa de las Columnas or House of the Halach Uinic. He was the high priest.
