It stayed in the family for a few years before being sold to the government where it functioned as a school, and then the official residence of the state governors before El Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) turned it into Museo de Antropología e Historia in 1966. Designed by Italian architect Enrico Deserti and engineer Manuel Canton Ramos, who oversaw Casas Gemelas, the mansion turned-museum is a mix of architectural styles: French Baroque, European neoclassical, and classical.
