El Castillo @ Chichén Itzá / Mexico (UNESCO world heritage)

Armin Dörr, thank you for helping me with this cool edit! Initially I wanted the photo without other tourists, but I realised that a proper edit would take a few hours, and the result may still look unnatural. Thanks also kata_batic for your thoughts on this! The other new wonders of the world are Christ the Redeemer (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Colosseum (Rome, Italy), Great Wall of China (Beijing, China), Machu Picchu (Peru), Petra (Jordan) and Taj Mahal (Agra, India). 5 to go... :-) Nominated were also Acropolis of Athens (Greece), Alhambra (Spain), Angkor Wat (Cambodia), Eiffel Tower (France), Hagia Sophia (Turkey), Kiyomizu-dera (Japan), Moai (Easter Island, Chile), Neuschwanstein (Germany), Red Square (Russia), Statue of Liberty (USA), Stonehenge (UK), Sydney Opera House (Australia) and Timbuktu (Mali). El Castillo (Spanish for "castle"), also known as the Temple of Kakulkan, is a stepped pyramid that dominates the center of the Chichén Itzá archaeological site in the Mexican state of Yucatán. Chichén Itzá was a pre-Hispanic town and the most famous and best restored of the Yucatán Maya sites. Chichén Itzá is a UNESCO World Heritage since 1988. The town was originally settled around 450 AD. El Castillo was built by the pre-Columbian Maya civilization sometime between the 9th and 12th centuries AD.
