Went back to Isle of Contoy, an island just off the Mexican Yucatan peninsula last month, hoping to see the Osprey nest I saw the previous year. In Feb 2011 there were 2 adults and a young one. This year I was there in April and at first I thought the nest was empty. After a short while this lovely youngster flew in to the nest, but it spent all its time calling. Perhaps the 2 months difference meant that the adults had left the nest and the youngster to fend for itself. I think the adults must have recently gone, hence its calling. It could probably look after itself as it was an excellent flyer, although I didn't see it bring any fish back to the nest. But a lovely sight all the same.
