Overlooking a quiet white sandy beach and the Caribbean sea this was my home for part of my visit to Yucatan. Boca Paila is an eco friendly (i..e. extremely primitive) 'resort' or rather collection of tent cabins without running water or electricity, which is located in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere reserve on a long narrow spit of land between the ocean and a vast complex of freshwater mangrove lagoons. Fear not though there was at least an elegantly designed restaurant, bar, showers and toilet complex with the necessary mod cons and a veranda roof with great views over both the beach and the lagoon. Delicious meals on offer too. The perfect base for sorties along the beach or by kayak into the lagoons for spotting wildlife.
