If you travel to Yucatan and have limited time to see the different ruins then I would most definitely choose Ek Balam over Chichen Itza. Ek Balam is less touristy and you don't have all the natives hawking their trinkets. It is quiet, peaceful - allowing you to imagine yourself back in time when this civilization was at its zenith.
